We were thrilled to share the news last week that Sud Italia has a new chef: Maurizio Ferrarese (above), formerly of Quattro at the Four Seasons (click here for food editor Greg Morago’s write-up on Maurizio and Sud Italia in the Houston Chronicle).
Maurizio’s currently working on a new lunch and dinner menu that we will be launching soon. Stay tuned for more news on that…
In the meantime, we wanted to tell you a little bit more about Maurizio and why we are so excited to have him as part of our team. A lot has been written (rightly so!) in the Houston food media about Maurizio’s long and enviable stint (17 years) with the Four Seasons hotel and hospitality group. Over the course of his career, he has opened and run Italian concepts for the venerated hotel franchise. That includes one of the most famous and celebrated restaurants in Italy, the Palagio at the Four Season in Florence — an impressive feather in Maurizio’s cap, for sure!
But Maurizio has also worked at other renowned restaurants across Italy, like the restaurant at the Villa d’Este on Lake Como, Il Platano, another one of Italy’s most famous dining destinations.
In other words, Maurizio wasn’t just a highly trained career chef working in Italy before he came to Houston to open the restaurant at the Four Seasons. He was already one of Italy’s best chefs when he was tapped by one of the world’s leading resort chains to lead their fine dining program.
It’s just one of the reasons we are overjoyed to have him with us (and he’s the sweetest guy to boot!).
